Playing Tourist in Whitehorse

We toured the McBride Museum this morning. It showcases the history of the Whitehorse and Yukon and has an excellent selection of stuffed wildlife on display.

This old bar was pretty neat.

The real Sam McGee’s cabin has been moved here. He was a friend of Robert Service, but bears no resemblance to the character in Robert Service’s well-known poem. Apparently, Robert just liked the name.

This building on stilts is a cache. Food would be stored here to protect it from wild animals:

We had parked the motorhome at the Visitor Centre so went back there for lunch and a rest. We took the dogs for a walk along the Yukon River; they went wading in it too.

The Transportation Museum has the world’s largest weathervane in front of it – a DC3 plane which actually turns in the wind!

We had supper (huge beef ribs) at the Westmark Whitehorse where we watched the first period of the Stanley Cup final game. Fran watched the end of the game back at Camp Walmart. (Boo Hoo!)
